Joanna Lam er professor mso ved Center of Excellence for International Courts (iCourts) og leder af Study Hub for International Economic Law and Development (SHIELD) på Det Juridiske Fakultet, Københavns Universitet. Sammen med Julien Chaisse, er hun chefredaktør for tidsskriftet Journal of World Investment & Trade.

Joanna Lam specialiserer sig i international handelsret, investeringsret og voldgift. Hendes seneste forskning fokuserer på investorforpligtelser, kontrakter i energisektoren og gennemsigtighed i international økonomisk mægling. Joanna Lams arbejde er blevet støttet af blandt andet Fulbright Foundation, Carlsberg Foundation, Dreyer Foundation, Harvard University og Uddannelses- og Forskningsministeriet. Hun er i øjeblikket PI for projektet ENERGIZE: Omformning af International Investeringsret for den Grønne Omstilling, udført i samarbejde med University of Hamburg og University of Warsaw (Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond).

Joanna Lam er uddannet fra Harvard Law School og har ph.d. og habilitation (doktorgrad) inden for juridiske videnskaber. Hun er også en licenseret advokat. Hun var Fulbright Fellow ved Harvard Law School og har efterfølgende haft gæstestillinger ved blandt andet International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT, Rome), Harvard Law School og University of California, Berkeley School of Law.

Joanna Lam er forfatter og redaktør af en række bøger, herunder monografien ”Legal Interpretation in International Commercial Arbitration” (Routledge 2014), ”Establishing Judicial Authority in International Economic Law” (Cambridge University Press 2016; Joanna Jemielniak, Laura Nielsen og Henrik Palmer Olsen red.) og ”Language and Legal Interpretation in International Law” (Oxford University Press 2022; Anne Lise Kjær og Joanna Lam red.). Hendes artikler er blevet udgivet i blandt andet Journal of International Economic Law, Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law, Leiden Journal of International Law, European Business Law Review og Journal of International Arbitration.

Supervision

MA and BA:

supervision of theses in Danish and English in the areas of international business law and arbitration. 

PhD students and postdocs:

Lam had supervised three PhD projects to completion and is currently a supervisor of further two PhD projects. She has served as the chair of assessment panels and as reviewer of four PhD projects. She has also been an advisor for two postdocs, with external funding obtained from Carlsberg Foundation and the Independent Research Fund Denmark.
