Circular Space Economy
CirCus Webinar.
This seminar is part of the CirCus webinar series on the Legal Landscape of Circular Supply Chains. Space pollution is a common concern of humankind, and maintaining long-term space sustainability requires joint management and collective action at the international level in order to be effective. By minimising waste and maximising the reuse, refurbishment, and recycling of materials throughout their lifecycle, the Circular Space Economy (CSE) is one collective action model touted as a solution to the problem of space pollution. Eswar Theagarajan and Michael Picard present an examination of the three pillars of CSE, namely 1) extend and protect space missions and objects, 2) reuse and repurpose space objects, and 3) salvage and recycle space debris. Many technical, political and legal hurdles remain to be resolved for the successful transition to a CSE.
