New Visiting Researcher at iCourts - Martin Herje
Martin Herje is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Bergen (Faculty of Law), specializing in artificial legal reasoning and the use of AI in legal decision-making. His Ph.D. work touches on subjects such as the functions of reason-giving in law, the transparency of both human and artificial legal reasoning, and the automation of legal reasoning. In the future, he seeks to explore how artificial reasoning processes may provide novel insights into the law, such as previously unarticulated emergent legal concepts.
Martin is a member of the LEXplain project, which is a joint University of Copenhagen and University of Bergen collaboration on explainable AI and reason-giving in administrative law. Professor Henrik Palmer Olsen is one of his Ph.D. supervisors.
Martin will be a Visiting Researcher at iCourts from 26. February – 12. March 2026.
