New Visiting Researcher at iCourts - Daria Levina
Dr. Dr. Daria Levina holds two doctoral degrees, from the European University Institute and Lomonosov Moscow State University, as well as an LL.M. from Harvard Law School. Most recently, she's done a postdoctoral research stay at the University of Lausanne funded by the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship. She is a scholar with extensive expertise in private international law, international arbitration, and cross-border dispute resolution. Her research focuses on the interplay between arbitration, international commercial courts, and state courts, with a particular emphasis on how legal frameworks adapt to the mobility of capital and the dynamics of globalization.
Daria’s academic contributions include a co-edited volume, Private International Law in Russia (Hart Publishing, 2024), a monograph, and numerous peer-reviewed articles, chapters and policy briefs. Her work combines rigorous legal analysis with empirical research methods, including semi-structured interviews, to offer innovative solutions to systemic challenges in cross-border disputes. She is currently working on her third book, Building International Commercial Courts: How the Driving Forces Behind the Existing Courts Can Inform Future Choices.
Before transitioning to academia, Daria practiced law for several years as an Assistant Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague and as an associate at a German law firm, where she represented multinational clients in complex cross-border disputes. She has also contributed to legal education by designing and teaching courses at leading institutions, including Harvard Law School, the European University Institute, and Humboldt University of Berlin.
Fluent in multiple languages and experienced in international collaboration, Daria is committed to advancing scholarship in private international law and international civil procedure.
