Interdisciplinary Opportunities for Biometric Researchers

iCourts postdoctoral researcher Karen McGregor Richmond has been appointed as Copenhagen University lead representative to the Biometrics Institute, opening up opportunities for three more colleagues to join this vibrant research community. Details below

Postdoctoral researcher Karen McGregor Richmond (iCourts) has been appointed as the Copenhagen University lead representative to the Biometrics Institute. The Biometrics Institute was founded in 2001 and represents a unique multi-stakeholder global community, including a large number of government agencies, banks, airlines, airports, biometric experts, privacy experts, regulators, suppliers, and academics as well as international observers such as United Nations agencies, EU institutions, and IGOs. Thus, Karen will be working alongside Danish and global partners, including:

  • Heathrow Airport
  • Immigration New Zealand
  • International Airlines Group

The insitute provides an unbiased and independent platform for discussion and bleeding-edge academic research across multiple disiplines. As lead representative at Copenhagen University,, Karen will help to further the mission of the Institute: 

  • To promote the responsible, ethical and effective use of Biometrics and related technologies.
  • To develop thought leadership and guidance for the responsible use of biometrics.
  • To use expert input to facilitate knowledge transfer to members, prospects, key stakeholders, and the public.
  • To act as a connector for the global Biometrics industry including users, suppliers, academics, regulators and privacy advocates.;

Most importantly, Karen’s appointment opens up access to three further Copenhagen University academics, with research interests and/or experience in the biometric field. As a part of a specialised research cluster Karen and three others will be working to improve standardisation and best practice regarding biometric use in Denmark and further afield.
