Breakfast Briefing with Simon Kollerup

Breakfast Briefing

The Defence Cooperation Agreement between Denmark and the United States

In Danish

Abstract

The Defence Cooperation Agreement between Denmark and the United States establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation and marks a significant development of Danish defence and security policy. The agreement permits the presence and activities of US military forces on Danish territory, subject to the full respect for Denmark’s sovereignty, constitutional order, domestic legislation, and international legal obligations. While it reinforces Denmark’s security guarantees through NATO and underscores the United States’ commitment to European defence, the agreement simultaneously raises important questions regarding sovereignty, legal frameworks, and the broader political implications of hosting foreign forces on Danish soil.

The briefing will be held in Danish, but all participants are welcome to contribute with questions and comments in English.
