Visiting researcher at CeBIL: Anne-Sophie Guernon

Anne-Sophie Guernon is a doctoral candidate in Anthropology at McGill University and holds an MSc in Medical Anthropology from the University of Oxford. Her doctoral research is a comparative ethnography of gestational diabetes care in Denmark and Canada, examining how diagnosis, glucose surveillance, and diet and lifestyle changes reshape pregnancy, personal identity, and patient-clinician trust under two universal-access welfare systems; a first paper from this material appeared in Culture, Medicine, and Psychiatry. 

She also writes on AI in medicine and research, including a commentary in Nature Reviews Bioengineering on authorship in AI-assisted scholarship, and is an original steering committee member of the Living Ethics International Network. 

At CeBIL, she is developing a retrieval-augmented conversational AI tool for patients newly diagnosed with gestational diabetes, focusing on the data protection, liability, and regulatory classification questions raised by patient-facing language models. Outside of academia, she is an avid traveller who enjoys reading, cooking, photography, and sport.
