Mattias specialises in technology transfer, intellectual property, and innovation management. His expertise centres on facilitating the transfer of cutting-edge research, driving commercialisation and impact across various technological domains.
Currently, as Senior Program Officer at WIPO, Mattias leads initiatives to enhance technology transfer frameworks and innovation ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on life sciences. He is responsible for building capacity in managing and licensing intellectual property, and developing mechanisms that enhance technology transfer between public research organisations and private sector actors capable of scale-up and commercialisation.
Mattias designs and oversees programmes aimed at accelerating life sciences innovation, including the development of specialised training and reference materials, alongside delivering in-situ training sessions for inventors and innovators worldwide jointly with renowned field experts. Forthcoming reference documents and training materials in the WIPO ‘Accelerating Life Sciences Innovation’ series include the titles Technology Transfer in the Field of Biotechnology: A Primer, WIPO Patent Search Handbook in the Field of Chemistry and Biotechnology, Disclosure Requirements and Protection of Inventions Related to Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology, and, IP Management and Technology Transfer in the field of Life Sciences.
Prior to his role at WIPO, Mattias served as Programme Manager in the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Unit at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), where he managed the IP portfolio and Proof of Concept programme. He also worked as Senior Business Developer and Chief Innovation Advisor at the Technical University of Denmark, where he managed IP portfolios, designed licensing strategies, negotiated IP-based agreements, and facilitated public-private R&D partnerships. His hands-on experience extends to board director positions in university spinout companies.
Mattias is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) and a qualified European Trademark and Design Attorney.
