New Book Explores How Generative AI and Design Are Transforming Law and Contracting

CeBIL is pleased to highlight the publication of Generative AI, Contracts, Law and Design, an interdisciplinary new volume co-edited by CeBIL’s Associate Director Marcelo Corrales Compagnucci together with Helena Haapio, Professor of Practice (Strategic Business Law) at the University of Vaasa, and Mark Fenwick, Professor of International Business Law at Kyushu University, Japan.

The book brings together leading scholars and practitioners from law, business, technology, and design to examine how generative AI is reshaping legal communication, contracting practices, and the broader relationship between technology and the law.

Through real-world case studies across technology, healthcare, justice, and financial well-being, the contributors explore how AI can support clearer communication, fairer processes, and more actionable legal outcomes. The chapters address topics such as AI-supported financial well-being and debt management, bridging the implementation gap in contracting, enhancing usability in privacy notices and health data, and protecting artistic style in the age of generative technologies.

Across the volume, a set of central questions guide the analysis:

  • How can we make contracts more understandable and goal-oriented?

  • How can AI help communicate legal and commercial information more effectively and responsibly?

  • And what does good design look like in an AI-driven world?

Generative AI, Contracts, Law and Design is a significant contribution to ongoing debates at the intersection of law, technology, and design, and reflects CeBIL’s commitment to advancing research in responsible and human-centred innovation.
