Innovation, Law, and Ethics in International Bioscience – Bill of Health Digital Symposium

Blog

CeBIL is pleased to share the conclusion of a special digital symposium on AI in Medicine, published on the Bill of Health blog hosted by the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School.

The symposium explores the legal and ethical frontiers of health innovation and features contributions from researchers across the Inter-CeBIL network at the University of Copenhagen. Topics include:

  • The impact of Europe’s evolving data protection frameworks on AI models in health and life sciences

  • The balance between clinical trial transparency and patent protection

  • Governance and accountability for generative health AI

  • Ethical challenges and opportunities in emerging neurotechnologies

  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and stewardship in a global health context

  • Innovation in plant science and the interface between patent and GMO regulation

  • Decolonizing digital health, focusing on equity, consent, and AI governance

  • The University of Copenhagen’s stewardship of the Patent Pledge Database

  • Gaps in pandemic legislation concerning AMR

  • The implications of quantum computing export controls for health research and security

The symposium was edited by Professor Timo Minssen and Associate Professor Marcelo Corrales Compagnucci, with invaluable support from the Petrie-Flom Center team — Erin Lynch, Susannah Baruch, and I. Glenn Cohen.

This initiative was made possible through a scientifically independent grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and showcases interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of law, ethics, and bioscience innovation.
