New postdoctoral fellow at CeBIL – Peter Davis

We are excited to welcome Dr Peter Davis to the International Center for Bioscience Innovation Law (Inter-CeBIL) as a Postdoctoral Fellow.

Peter is a legal scholar in information communication technology (ICT) law, with a special interest in data protection, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Prior to his move to Europe, he was admitted as a lawyer in Western Australia, having completed a combined Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Western Australia. He obtained an LLM at the University of Oslo (UiO) in ICT Law, and was engaged as a research assistant at the Norwegian Centre for Computers and Law before moving to his doctoral studies. His doctoral thesis, entitled ‘Encryption's 'Going Dark' Debate: The Rule of Law confronts the Laws of Mathematics’, analysed the regulation of cryptography through the lenses of fundamental rights, the rule of law, and regulatory theory.

Peter is no stranger to the University of Copenhagen, having previously completed an 18-month postdoc with CIIR on the LEGALESE project, where he researched issues of bias and fairness in natural language processing. He is excited to continue contributing to KU’s cutting-edge research in emerging fields such as quantum computing and machine learning.

Outside of academia, Peter enjoys endurance sports, and got to know Copenhagen and its surrounds by training for Ironman Copenhagen last year. We are thrilled to have Peter in our team. Welcome, Peter!
