Private standards, certification and green labels

The project focuses on private law aspects of the role played by private standards and certification systems in securing quality, safety and the sustainability of goods and services.

Private standards and certification systems play an important role in securing quality, safety and increasingly also the sustainability of goods and services. The widespread use of these private governance systems in securing public interests raises basic questions such as whether contract and liability law can be used for securing accountability of the market actors. In that respect, the often complex interplay between market- and state-driven regulation of private standards challenges traditional private law concepts in several ways. The project looks into private and public commercial law aspects of these questions.
It is connected to the GreenLab network, funded by the University of Copenhagen (UCPH)
