CO2nstruct – Decarbonisation requirements in construction contracts

Public regulation aims to lower the construction sector’s combined climate footprint. However, the actual effect of this regulation depends upon its implementation into commercial construction contracts. C02nstruct analyses how decarbonisation requirements can be efficiently implemented into contracts and supported by construction law.

Regulators at EU- and national level point to the construction sector as having a decisive potential for decarbonisation, and initiatives are now taken to stimulate a green transition. However, the actual effect of public decarbonisation requirements is critically dependent on the implementation of regulation into commercial contracts. Though private actors largely appear ready to offer solutions, public requirements often contradict commercial customs. Consequently, there is an urgent need to improve models for the implementation of emission requirements into construction contracts and their supporting digital modeling systems (BIM). CO2nstruct analyses contractual practices in the construction sector. Through digital scraping and data analysis, we aim to support the development of public and private contracting best practices for decarbonizing the construction sector.
