For language centres
Did your language centre participate in the BASE survey?
Below, you can read about what your language centre has been contributing to by participating in the BASE survey, how the language centres were selected, and you can continue using materials from the BASE survey in the Danish language education.
By participating in the survey, your language centre has been helping to provide new knowledge on integration in Denmark. The survey addresses immigrants’ access to housing, health care and employment, which are issues of great importance to many newly arrived immigrants. With the survey we investigate, among other things, to what extent lack of language skills constitutes a barrier to integration, and in what ways language centres are helping immigrants overcome barriers. We will likely be presenting preliminary results of the survey at a members’ meeting of De Danske Sprogcentre (the interest organisation for Danish language centres) in the course of 2022 or 2023.
Within each of Denmark’s five regions, we have contacted randomly sampled language centres in Denmark, which are publicly contracted providers of the Danish language educations: DU1, DU2 and DU3. In each region, we have defined a target number for how many language centres to invite, based on statistical information about the geographical distribution of immigrants within the target group and on the size of the language centres.
In connection with the survey, we have developed two sets of educational materials in cooperation with Vestegnens Sprog- og Kompetencecenter (VSK). The materials can be used in the Danish language education for themes concerning housing, work and health care in Denmark. The material exists in a version targeted DU1, module 5 and 6, and a version targeted DU2 and DU3, module 3 to 6. In addition to the teaching materials, we have developed a “Good to know”-folder with tips and advice on housing, work and health care in Denmark. Just as the teaching materials, the folder can be used in the Danish language education, however it will be most suited for the last modules of DU3. The folder also exists in English.
The materials can be found at the front page under the heading Research results.
