New book on Polar Law
International challenges
Professor Yoshifumi Tanaka from CEPRI has published a new book, Polar Law: An Introduction (Edward Elgar, 2025).
The polar regions, including the Arctic, are a microcosm of challenges facing the international community today. Thus the book examines the key legal issues of polar law through the lens of public international law, such as: sustainable use of natural resources, protection of the Polar environment and biological diversity, the regulation of shipping, scientific research, international dispute settlement, and climate change in the polar regions. In so doing, the book provides a starting point for anyone wishing to study polar law.
