What does “integration” mean?
Integration is one of the major challenges posed to the European Union by the immigration of third-country nationals. However, the concept of integration is still lacking a proper legal definition.
Matteo Bottero has recently published two peer-reviewed articles on the legal concept of integration, namely “Integration (of Immigrants) in the European Union: A Controversial Concept” in the European Journal of Migration and Law, and “Integration (of Immigrants) in the European Courts’ Jurisprudence: Supporting a Pluralist and Rights-Based Paradigm?” in the Journal of International Migration and Integration.
These articles are among the outcomes of the project “Law and Private Governance for a New Understanding of Immigrant Integration” funded by the Carlsberg Foundation.
