CEPRI Miniconference: Sustainable Global Value Chains – Contracts, Liability and Private International Law

The question of the possible responsibility and liability of companies for human rights infringements, environmental and climate damage in the value chain has largely been considered a ’soft law’ matter without clear legal consequences. However, with the EU Commission proposal of 23 February 2022 for a directive on due diligence sustainability obligations of companies, the question about the possible legal obligations and liabilities of companies with regard to sustainability issues has become of highly relevant.  At this CEPRI Miniconference, the private law implications of the directive are discussed.
