PhD defence: Ergün Cakal

It is a great pleasure for the Faculty of Law to invite all interested parties to Ergün Cakal's public defence of his thesis entitled:

Recognising psychological suffering in adjudicating torture’s prohibition
Between precedent and practice at the European Court of Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the UN Committee Against Torture

The thesis has been evaluated by a committee consisting of:

  • Associate Professor Zuzanna Godzimirska, University of Copenhagen
  • Professor Lutz Oette, SOAS, University of London
  • Professor Natasa Mavronicola, University of Birmingham

Supervisor is professor Mikael Rask Madsen, Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen and co-supervisor is professor Tobias Kelly, University of Edinburgh

The public defence takes place on Wednesday 5 February 2025 at 14:00 in Kierkegaard Auditorium - 9A.0.01, Njalsgade 76, ground floor, 2300 Copenhagen S.

After the defence Ergün and the Faculty of Law will host a reception in meeting room Retssalslokale - 6B.0.06, Njalsgade 76, ground floor, 2300 Copenhagen S. The reception ends at 18:00.
