Residence and work permit
Whether PhD students are required to apply for a residence and work permit is dependent on which country they are citizens of.
- Nordic citizens: You are free to enter, live and work in Denmark. There is no need to apply for a residence permit prior to your arrival in Denmark.
- EU/EEA or Swiss citizens: You must apply for a certificate of registration at the Regional State Administration.
- Citizens of other countries: You must apply for a residence and work permit at the Danish Immigration Service. You can submit your application at the Danish diplomatic mission in your country of origin or in the country where you have legally resided for the past three months. The Danish diplomatic mission will then forward your application to the Immigration service in Denmark where it will be processed.
