Prior to your arrival

Accommodation
It is the PhD student’s responsibility to find their own accommodation in Denmark prior to arriving in Copenhagen. Most unfortunately, the Faculty of Law or the PhD School cannot assist students in finding accommodation in Copenhagen.

Please note that currently the demand for student housing is much higher than the amount of student housing available. Therefore, both Danish and international students find it extremely difficult to find student housing. Given this, it is highly recommended that you start your search for accommodation as soon as you have been offered a PhD position. Finding suitable accommodation may take a number of months.

For more information on finding accommodation, please see the International Staff Mobility webpage.
Flights
The University of Copenhagen will not pay for your flight to Copenhagen from your home country. It is the PhD student’s responsibility to cover the cost of their flight. If during the course of your enrolment in the PhD programme, you wish to visit your home country for a holiday or for other reasons, you will have to bear the cost of your airfare.

Personal funds
Prior to your arrival in Copenhagen, make sure that you have enough funds at your disposal to cover your living expenses for the first month of your stay. Your first scholarship payment will only be paid to you at the end of the first month of your enrolment as a PhD student. Payment will not be made in advance.

Personal medical insurance
If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen, you will not be covered by the Danish public health insurance scheme until you receive your Danish Health Insurance Card (sygesikringskort). Given this, you are strongly advised to take out personal health insurance prior to your arrival in Denmark.
