Educational requirements
Applicants must have an educational background that corresponds to the Danish Master of Laws degree, which is a second cycle 120 ECTS degree (two years of full-time studies), that builds on a 180 ECTS bachelor’s degree (three years of full-time studies) or equivalent qualification. It is within the discretion of the PhD School to determine whether the applicant’s educational background is equivalent to the Danish Master’s degree.
Only applicants with an overall grade point average of 8.2 or higher from their master’s degree as well as a master’s thesis graded at 10 points or higher (or equivalent for applicants with a foreign educational background), will be considered. For the Danish grading scale.
Applicants may submit an application before they have completed their master’s degree (or for applicants for the 3+5 Programme, before they have earned their bachelor’s degree). However, they should have submitted the final evaluation for their course before 1 June of the year when the PhD programme is to commence (check the specific PhD call as this date may change).
While the Faculty of Law allows students who have not yet completed their degrees to submit PhD applications, the applicant must include a certified transcript of completed courses and grades obtained at the time of submitting an application.
Absence of certified documentation of enrolment and progress from the university where the degree is currently being completed in the application will cause the application to be rejected.
Applicants should only submit documents that relate to any educational qualifications after commencing their tertiary studies. Primary and secondary school level diplomas and transcripts are not required..
Final diplomas and transcripts are the only documents which may be submitted after the PhD application deadline.
