Shipping Carbon Dioxide as Dangerous Goods: Questions of Liability

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingBook chapterResearchpeer-review

Shipping of liquefied carbon dioxide will be central to the emerging carbon capture and storage industry. The chapter makes an inquiry into its characteristics as dangerous cargo, looking at the different objects of legal protection and mapping the applicable regulatory framework. It displays the complexity of regulation, which comprises acts of different geographical scope, legal force and both public and private nature. While applied science demonstrates significant efforts in predicting the dangers of carbon dioxide shipping, the chapter advocates for appropriate legal support of the nascent industry.
