Looking for Europe: Film, politics and globalization in Denmark 1997 to 2009

The dissertation addresses how Danish film responded to globalization and Europeanization from the late 1980s to 2009. The main argument is that the pressures from the 'outside' motivated increased political attention towards Danish film. Following from this, organizational transformations during the 1990s entailing re-nationalization and substantial professionalization of Danish film policy and industry has promoted pluralism in the production sector and the development of diversity in film types and genres. The transformations in Danish film during the last 20 years support the hypothesis that globalization can trigger the revitalization of locally embedded cultural production.
