Alessandro Monti's main research areas are sustainability and the green transition in international and EU law. In particular, Alessandro focuses on renewable energy law and policy, as well as the interaction between climate change and international trade and investment law. With respect to the latter, Alessandro is currently involved in the research project EnAct, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond). His sub-project examines the way in which climate change considerations are incorporated into international investment law and arbitration.

Another research line that Alessandro has been developing since his PhD thesis is the role of international climate and trade law to prevent carbon leakage and support the deployment of green technologies. In this regard, Alessandro actively researches legal challenges arising under international trade law from subsidies and trade remedies on renewable energy technologies, as well as the design and adoption of border carbon adjustment mechanisms.

Alessandro is committed to widespread dissemination and outreach of research findings, and he is co-host and co-founder of the podcast The Climate Show.
