I work on legal, ethical and political issues in biomedical research and technologies, in particular in the area of medical AI and genomics. Currently, I’m involved in the CLASSICA project, which aims to develop an AI-based surgery support system. Previously, I have studied, among other things, the use of consumers’ data by consumer genomics companies, informed consent of gamete donors in a genome editing study and the impact of the EU Medical Device Regulation on the safety of medical AI. My work has appeared in Nature Machine Intelligence, Nature and EMBO Reports. I received a grant from the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare to study ethical issues of AI in healthcare. In my research I use both empirical methods (e.g. content analysis, survey) and theorethical approaches.
I have a background in Biotechnology (MSc, BEng, Warsaw University of Life Sciences) and gained experience in RNA biology labs. I earned a Master of Bioethics (University of Leuven) and PhD in Law, Science and Technology (University of Bologna). I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Research Ethics and Bioethics at Uppsala University and Medical Ethics group at Lund University.
