Launching GRIP
The Group for Research In Punishment (GRIP) recently initiated its series with a session on state reactions to youth crime. The event featured insights from PhD Fellow Lea Cecilie Brinkgaard and Docent Ann-Karina Eske Henriksen, who established a foundation for in-depth theoretical and methodological debates. The discussions aimed to distinguish between care and control, explore their historical origins, and critically evaluate their connections with the penal ethos of the welfare state.
The forthcoming discussion will delve into the fundamental objectives of punishment and examine new extremes in the use of criminal law. Senior Researcher Peter Vedel Kessing and Professor Thomas Elholm will contribute their expertise on the transfer of prisoners to Kosovo, the implementation of novel punitive measures such as “double punishment,” and the general trend towards more severe penalties and increasing numbers of incarcerated individuals.
