ReCreating Europe: Intermediaries
ReCreating Europe Intermediaries (WP 6) is a collaboration between the Centre for Information and Innovation Law (CIIR); University of Copenhagen, Institute for Information Law (IViR), University of Amsterdam; University of Szeged and the Alexander von Humboldt Institut for Internet and Society(HIIG).
THE PROJECT IS CLOSED
Project period: 1 January 2020 – 31 December 2022
Technologies have democratised cultural practices and the production and use of intellectual property. However, establishing sustainable norms for digital copyright is especially challenging.
Through its multidisciplinary approach, the EU-funded ReCreating Europe project aims to provide insight into the requirements of a regulatory framework that promotes culturally diverse production and optimises inclusive access and consumption. It will achieve this by creating cross-national maps of regulatory responses and stakeholders' coping strategies when faced with pitfalls and constraints and developing innovative methods to measure the impact of digitisation on cultural production and consumption. The project will also conduct legal and technological mapping of trusted platform modules and content-filtering algorithms as well as offer policy recommendations and best practices.
WP6 “Intermediaries” provides a comprehensive EU level analysis and cross-national mapping of the public and private regulatory sources having impact on content moderation and removal of copyright-content by large-scale UGC platforms; and the legal, economic and technological barriers faced by such platforms in enabling access, dissemination and diversity of digital culture and the creators using such platforms to access content and create cultural value.
