On 7 June 2023, Anja Møller Pedersen successfully defended her PhD Thesis on ‘The Fundamental Rights to Privacy and Data Protection in the EU Legal Order: Reconciling privacy rights and rationales’. Her thesis was assessed by a committee consisting of Janne Rothmar Herrmann, Eleni Kosta and Lee A. Bygrave. The PhD project was co-funded by University of Copenhagen and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR), and Anja pursued her research under the supervision of Henrik Udsen (CIIR) and Rikke Frank Jørgensen (DIHR).

Anja will continue her research in a postdoc on ‘Privacy and data protection in the age of AI and surveillance capitalism’, particularly focusing on the privacy implications of new surveillance technologies applied by law enforcement authorities and intelligence services, such as facial recognition, open source and predictive policing. Similar to her PhD, the postdoc is co-funded by University of Copenhagen and DIHR, and Anja will remain member of CIIR.
