Tuulia Karjalainen Joins CIIR as a Guest Researcher
Tuulia Karjalainen joins CIIR as a guest researcher. She is a doctoral researcher in the University of Helsinki, where she works as a part of Helsinki Legal Tech Lab.
Tuulia's PhD project titled "To Process and to Protect: Discourses of Personal Data in the EU General Data Protection Regulation” explores European data protection law and in particular the GDPR from the perspective of effectiveness and effects on European digital environment at large. In her research, Tuulia is interested in the relationship of law and digitalization, data power, and the interactions between different technology regulation initiatives in the EU.
Tuulia has obtained a LL.M. from University of Helsinki and also holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences. Prior starting her PhD project, she worked as a privacy counsel in the telecom sector and private practice.
