CIIR lunch on the Risks of Internet Regulation with David Kaye
On 9 April 2024, we will be joined for CIIR lunch*by David Kaye for a conversation about the risks of internet regulation, building upon his recent piece in Foreign Affairs (https://www.foreignaffairs.com/united-states/risks-internet-regulation). With its wave of technology regulation, notably the recent entry into force of the Digital Services Act as well as the European Parliament’s adoption of the AI Act, the EU is attempting to govern many of the challenges. Yet, „Well-Intentioned Efforts Could Jeopardize Free Speech”.
David Kaye (https://www.law.uci.edu/faculty/full-time/kaye/) is a professor of law at the University of California, Irvine, and the former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression. He is the 2023-2024 Fulbright Distinguished Scholar in Public International Law at Lund University, Sweden, and the U.S. Independent Expert to the European Commission for Democracy through Law (“Venice Commission”).
