The article uses Stuart Hall’s thoughts on culture and representation in collaboration with Thierry Groensteen’s formal comics theory to analyze how metal is represented in three Nordic comics: Frode Øverli’s Pondus, Lise Myhre’s Nemi, and Perkeros by J.P.Ahonen and K.P. Alare. The study shows that metal is a multifacetted concept in these comics and that metal serves various purposes, although notably black metal is consistently ridiculed
