New Postdoc in CEPRI
CEPRI welcomes Aslı Arda as a new postdoctorial researcher from 1 May 2020.
Aslı Arda holds a PhD in Shipping, Contract Law and Arbitration from the University of Exeter. She completed an LLM on Maritime Law with distinction at the same university. She completed her bachelor's degree in law at Başkent University. She has also been a registered lawyer at the Bar of Ankara since 2014.
The title of her PhD thesis was 'Muddying the Water: Incorporation of Arbitration Clauses in Shipping, Reinsurance and Construction Chain Contracts.' In her thesis, she specifically looked into the incorporation of arbitration clauses in a contractual chain from a contractual third-party perspective in shipping, reinsurance and construction as the examples of this legal concept are visible in these areas of law. The thesis also includes a chapter on the relevant Singaporean law and its comparison with English law as regards the incorporation of arbitration clauses in chain contracts.
In CEPRI, Aslı Arda will work on the issue of 'Rebalancing Liability: Externalisation of Tasks in Ship Management in the Age of Automation.' She will conduct research on various liability aspects of autonomous ships in the green transition and management contracts as a governance tool for externalization of risk.
