PhD fellow, teaching assistant

My PhD is part of the JustSites project, icourts. The focus is on accountability in post-conflict Timor-Leste for violations amounting to international crimes during the period of its occupation from 1975-1999. In light of principles of international criminal justice, my research examines the potentially diverging interests, and relative influence of various stakeholders, in shaping related justice processes. The research considers the roles of stakeholders at local, national and international levels in relation to the justice processes, including victims and civil society, national governments, and the United Nations. As a case study, it aims to provide insights into the ways in which country-specific realities may impact how principles of international criminal justice are put into practice.
