New visitor at iCourts - Sophie Turenne

March 2016.

Dr Sophie Turenne, Lecturer in Law at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, will be visiting iCourts in March 2016. She has written extensively on the topic of judicial independence and has interests in comparative law, European law and jurisprudence. During her stay, she will be working on and presenting part of a project entitled ‘Fair reflection of society in the Court of Justice of the European Union’. This looks at the CJEU’s legitimacy in light of the principles of judicial independence and fair reflection of society. It considers the difficulties in finding a common core meaning for representation in the judiciary in the European Union, and examines the importance of representation relative to the principle of independence of the CJEU.
