New visitor at iCourts - Christoph Sperfeldt

Christoph Sperfeldt is a PhD scholar at the Centre for International Governance & Justice (CIGJ) at the Australian National University and will be visiting iCourts from 15 June to 5 July 2015.

Before joining CIGJ, Christoph worked largely in the fields of human rights and transitional justice, with a focus on Southeast Asia. He has been Regional Program Coordinator at the Asian International Justice Initiative, a joint program of the East-West Center and UC Berkeley’s War Crimes Studies Center, where he has supported regional human rights and justice sector capacity-building efforts in the ASEAN region.

Prior to this, Christoph worked among others as Advisor to the Victims Support Section of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia.

Based on his practical experience, Christoph’s socio-legal doctoral research looks into the evolution of victim reparations in international criminal justice and examines the first practice emerging from international(-ised) criminal courts. During his stay at iCourts, he will continue working on his thesis project and present some preliminary observations from his Cambodia case study.
