New Visitor at iCourts - Moritz Baumgärtel

Moritz Baumgärtel is a PhD researcher at the Perelman Centre for Legal Philosophy of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). His research project deals with the impact of the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the EU on the problematic human rights situation of asylum seekers and migrants, examining the effectiveness of the courts’ landmark decisions. His interest in the impact of courts and international regimes extends also to the fields of transitional justice and climate policy. Moritz is affiliated with the legal section of the Institute of European Studies of the ULB and is also a member of the Belgian research network “The Global Challenge of Human Rights Integration”. He received an LLM in Public International Law from Utrecht University and an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, and has previously worked as an instructor at University College Roosevelt (the Netherlands) and as a Regional Research Fellow at the Caucasus Research Resource Centers in Tbilisi.
