Juan A. Mayoral is PhD in Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute and the CEACS-Juan March Institute.  He holds a BA in Law (2004), in Philosophy (2005) and in Political Science and Administration (2006). In 2006 he was awarded the grant from the Juan March Institute of Study and Research for master studies at the Centre of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (2006). In 2009 he obtained a MA in Democracy and Governance in the Autonomous University of Madrid. His main interests focus on Comparative Judicial Politics, European Union institutions and Democratization. During his stay at iCourts, he will develop the project: “Judicial Pluralism and Cooperation: A micro-level approach to the use of supranational precedent by national judges in EU law matters”. The project will answer questions on to what extent the level of judicial cooperation of national judges with supranational (CJEU and ECtHR) and national courts (e.g. constitutional courts) depend on the individual profiles and attitudes of the judges (e.g. trust in judicial institutions, knowledge of EU law, positions within the judiciary, among others).
