New Visitor at iCourts - Emilia Lindroos

PhD student Emilia Lindroos is currently finalizing her interdisciplinary doctoral thesis in comparative legal linguistics in the doctoral programme Legal Cultures in Transnational World at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lapland, Finland. With a background in both linguistics and the law, in her interdisciplinary doctoral thesis she aims at shedding light on the interdependence of law and language in the context of courtroom discourse by analyzing the formulaic character of Finnish and German criminal judgments from a comparative perspective, approaching legal language as an essential part of legal culture. Due to her prior work experience in the European Union institutions and in crime investigation, her research interests lie primarily in the broad fields of comparative criminal law and comparative legal linguistics: her main focus is on exploring problematic aspects related to multilingual legal communication (legal translation and legal interpreting) in criminal proceedings and in the judicial cooperation in criminal matter within the EU. During her stay at iCourts she will conduct research on courtroom discourse to complete her thesis.
