Breakfast briefing with Cornelius Wiesener and Astrid Kjeldgaard-Pedersen

'Responsibility in Partnered Operations – General Issues'

Cornelius Wiesener and Astrid Kjeldgaard-Pedersen are currently engaged in a research project aiming to map and disentangle the different grounds and avenues under which states can incur responsibility for misconduct by partners (i.e. other states, armed groups and IOs). This presentation will focus on the general rules of state responsibility that cut across the different specialized regimes of international law. The speakers will discuss recent contributions to international legal scholarship on shared responsibility and attempt to outline how the rules on ‘attribution’ and ‘complicity’ apply in specific mission scenarios.

About the speakers:

Cornelius Wiesener, postdoc, and Astrid Kjeldgaard-Pedersen, Professor WSR, are both affiliated to iCourts, Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, and participants in the InterMil project, which conducts strategic research and provides research-based public-sector consultancy within the field of military studies.
