Seminar on EU VAT News
You are hereby cordially invited to the afternoon seminar on EU VAT News: The eCommerce VAT Package and VAT Deduction of Transaction Costs, which will take place on 6 May 2019, 15.00 – 17.00, at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, South Campus.
The seminar is divided in two parts: First, Professor Joachim Englisch will give a lecture on the new legislative proposals to complete the 2021 eCommerce VAT package, where he will focus on compliance and administrative challenges. Second, Professor Ad van Doesum will give a lecture on VAT deduction of transaction costs in relation to sale and purchase of shares in the light of recent CJEU case law. Particularly, he will discuss the recent EU cases concerning Marle Participations, Ryanair, C&D Foods Acquisition, etc., and he will also touch upon the rules on transfer of a going concern and on VAT grouping.
Joachim Englisch holds a chair for tax law and public law at Münster University, Germany. Since 2011, he is the managing director of the institute for tax law at this university. He currently also holds the Alfred-Grosser-Chair 2018/2019 at Sciences Po Paris. His main research activities are devoted to International and European tax law covering both, direct and indirect taxation. Dr. Englisch acts as an advisor to the OECD Committee on Fiscal Affairs, and he is a permanent member of the VAT Experts Group of the European Commission.
Ad van Doesum is Professor of European Value Added Tax Law at Maastricht University. He is Head of PwC’s Knowledge Centre in the Netherlands, and appointed as honorary judge at the Hague District Court. He has written numerous article on VAT, published several books and is a member of various editorial boards. Ad has wide experience of litigating for clients and delivering legal opinion letters on complex technical and legal issues regarding VAT.

The seminar takes place at the Alf Ross Auditorium, room 9A.3.01, third floor, at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, South Campus. The address is Njalsgade 76, 2300 Copenhagen S, Denmark. After the main entrance (facing Ørestads Boulevard), walk straight down to the yellow stairs/elevator and up to the third floor. From the metro station, Islands Brygge, walk across the parking lot (entrance from Ørestads Boulevard), and the main entrance is to the right of the smaller grey building. If you need a parking ticket, please go to the “Videncenter”, which you will pass on the left at ground level, when you walk down to the yellow stairs/elevator.
