Ren formativ evaluering i skolen

Research output: Book/ReportBookEducation

This book is written for teachers and student teachers. We want to share some thoughts on pure formative assessment, which can make the work as a teacher less time consuming while the students learn better, more and with the least possible stress. Assessment and especially the way assessment is done is of enormous importance for students' learning . It is the main point of the book that formative and summative assessment should be kept as separate as possible. While summative assessment is used to evaluate whether the desired learning goals have been met, formative assessment is used to support the learning as it happens and beyond. Feedback in the form of the justification for a grade is something other than feedback, which the student must both absorb and use further in the learning process. The latter is precisely formative assessment and can be ensured by less work effort on the part of the teacher. Thus, the pure formative use of assessment should be attractive to both students and teachers, but here we are up against a long tradition of inappropriate mixing of formative and summative uses of assessment in the education system. 'Pure formative evaluation' in school challenges this tradition and provides concrete proposals for research-based and well-documented alternatives to the existing assessment practice, which can increase learning and reduce the work pressure for both teachers and students in primary and secondary school.
