The reception of the Danish literary canon suffers from a problematic heteronormative blindness towards non-normative forms of desire. Through the example of tree canonised Danish novels - Kongens Fald (Johannes V. Jensen), Barndommens Gade (Tove Ditlevsen) and Den kroniske uskyld (Klaus Rifbjerg) - this essay presents different strategies of blindness which seem to have functioned as an implicit heteronormative defence against the homoerotic possibilities of the novels. Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick's concept of "homosocial desire" is suggested as a useful tool and starting point for a thorough queering of the Danish literary canon.
