Les affaires du droit : Yves Dezalay et la construction du droit et de l’État

Research output: Contribution to journalJournal articlepeer-review

There is little doubt that Yves Dezalay together with Bryant Garth have provided some of the most advanced studies of the globalization of law to date. Their complex sociological studies of the transformation of law and the state provide a treasure trove of empirical and analytical insights rarely found in other studies of such structural phenomena as the globalization and transformation of states and law. What is perhaps less apparent in the reception of these studies are the underlying analytical concepts developed by Dezalay and Garth. Seemingly most at ease when conducting empirical sociology in even the most far-flung corners of the world, they nevertheless provide a set of core concepts informing their analysis. This article core interest is to tease out these concepts and then discuss their applicability to objects of inquiry that are different from those predominately studied by Dezalay and Garth.
