Robot Rules: Regulating Artificial Intelligence (book discussion)

Jacob Turner’s lecture will cover why AI is unique, what problems it can cause and how we can solve them. It will begin with a definition of AI and set out the challenges for current legal systems, including responsibility for harm, ownership of intellectual property and the ethical questions of how it should take decisions and whether there are any decisions AI should not take. Jacob will then suggest how to address these issues, including reforms to existing laws, international regulation and private sector techniques such as internal best practices and insurance. This will include discussion of the existing EU regulatory regime for AI, in particular the GDPR, and comparison to other regulatory principles around the world.
