César Soares de Oliveira
Visiting Stay: September 2026
César Soares de Oliveira is a doctoral researcher at the University of Eastern Finland in association with the Center for Climate Change, Energy, and Environmental Law (CCEEL). Having a background in international relations, César specialises in applying theoretical debates within public international law to specific areas in international environmental law. In particular, his research interests lie in the law of the sea, critical environmental law, polar law, and the study of coherence and consistency within international environmental regimes. He also has a general interest in comparative legal history and the law of treaties.
César is expected to defend his doctoral thesis in Autumn 2026. His thesis examines the extent to which the international law of the sea sustains and legitimises harmful practices of ocean use and governance, thus contributing to the ecological degradation of marine ecosystems worldwide.
