Barbara Bokor

Barbara is a Ph.D. Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen (UiB). Her Ph.D. research is about marine plastic pollution with a special focus on EU legislation and policies. During her research, she would like to understand how environmental regulations can promote the circular economy in the plastic value chain and how the corporate sector could be involved in the fight against marine plastic pollution in a responsible way. The active participation of the corporate sector is essential to reduce the impacts and costs of plastics on the environment. Therefore, the research aims to explore and understand both the operation of the plastic production value chain from a legal perspective and the role and liability of the corporate sector in plastic pollution. It is also vital to identify what kind of environmental regulatory instruments could be the most effective to have bearing on the decision-making process and behavior of the companies in tackling marine plastic pollution.

The project is financed by UiB under the UiB Priority Areas, Marine research and it is led by supervisor Prof. Sigrid Eskeland Schütz and co-supervisor Dr. Ignacio Herrera-Anchustegui, LL.M.

 Barbara holds a Master’s degree in Law and a Master’s degree in International Economy and Business. She has extensive experience from advising in various roles and institutions, both in the private and the public sector. Barbara joined UiB from a position as senior legal counsel/lead lawyer in the field of energy law at the Hungarian Oil and Gas Company (MOL Group).
