The EU Budget in the Climate Era
The Centre for Climate Change Law and Governance (CLIMA) at the University of Copenhagen is pleased to host the workshop “The EU Budget in the Climate Era”.
The workshop will look into how the EU budget is relevant for climate governance and the green transition, with particular attention to the role of the EU ETS, new own resources, climate taxation, CBAM, and the broader relationship between fiscal law, sustainability, and public finance. Bringing together scholars from Copenhagen, Prague, Milan and Heidelberg, the event will offer a space to reflect on how legal and fiscal innovation can support climate action in the EU.
The workshop is part of the 4EU+ collaborative project “From Climate Change to Fiscal Innovation: Transforming the EU Budget for Sustainability with CBAM, Climate Tax and ETS.” This partnership between the universities of Prague, Heidelberg, Milan, and Copenhagen explores how legal and fiscal instruments can contribute to the EU green transition and support the development of new financing mechanisms within the EU Own Resources System. More broadly, the project and the workshop provide a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and critical reflection on the evolution of EU law in response to pressing environmental, economic, and societal challenges.
