Human rights and environmental due diligence and the right to a healthy environment

CLIMA Lunch Seminar with Amanda Kron.

Abstract

The importance of addressing potential harm to human rights and the environment by corporate actors has received increasing attention, including through recent due diligence initiatives and litigation, as well as calls to address structural issues more fundamentally in corporate obligations and governance. The seminar will investigate the evolution of the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment (right to a healthy environment) as well as the concept of human rights and environmental due diligence, in light of recent developments at the international and regional level. Building on this investigation, the seminar will analyse whether these developments could contribute to a rethink of corporate obligations, particularly due diligence obligations.
