CArGo Roundtable

The UCPH interdisciplinary network on Climate Arctic Governance (CArGo) is convening a roundtable on Current Challenges in Climate Arctic Governance. The roundtable features experts from academia, government, and other stakeholders, working in the field of Arctic climate governance. Professor Daniel Bodansky and Torsten Kjølby Nielsen, Deputy Head of Department at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Arctic and North America have confirmed their participation as panelists.

Melting ice, starving polar bears and temperatures rising four times as fast as on the rest of the planet: the effects of climate change on ecosystems and humans are already visible across the Arctic. Changes happening in the Arctic affect us all. Climate action in the Arctic is therefore urgent to save both the region itself, and our planet. At the same time, climate change is enabling new economic activities in the area making some countries unwilling to tackle climate change in the region. This panel highlights the tension between urgent climate action,  economic interests and inherent rights of local populations.  Together with key experts in the field, we discuss ways in which climate change can jointly be addressed from all disciplines. The panel discussion will be followed by a student session, the CArGo Laboratory.

Students Lab

After the expert roundtable, we invite students and researchers to join our Arctic Lab, where they can interact, brainstorm, and explore new research ideas. Take the opportunity to discuss with peers and with researchers from science, law, political science and anthropology about your research ideas or projects!

At the Lab, we help YOU kickstart your research project! The Lab is a friendly environment and there is no expectation of a perfect presentation or pitch. Students can test out their research proposal, obtain feedback on ideas they’ve been working on, or discuss possibilities to work on climate Arctic issues with experts working in the field. Next to input on their ideas, students gain connections that may help them find their next project, supervisor, or increase their network. All students are welcome, regardless of the stage of their project, studies or discipline.
