Roundtable: Towards a global agreement on plastic pollution
In February in Nairobi, the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) adopted a resolution to develop a global agreement on plastic pollution. At the meeting, all states agreed to convene an intergovernmental negotiating committee to negotiate a new legally binding international instrument that addresses the way we produce, use, recycle and dispose of all plastics.
Eliminating plastic pollution, both on land and in the marine environment, is a key environmental policy objective of Denmark. It has worked closely with the other Nordic countries to secure an ambitious negotiating mandate for a plastics treaty.
In the roundtable, experts from academia, government, industry, and civil society will analyse the mandate and recent developments, and discuss what the key steps in the road ahead are.
